Not sure exactly where to hang your artwork?
These 3 tips will make hanging wall art stress free
Wall art hanging tip #1
A popular place to hang wall art is over the couch. Let me tell you, I'm jealous of all of you who can do that. I have windows. I love windows, but not on the only wall where a couch makes sense! Anyway, back to you lucky folks with wall space above your couch. A simple rule is to place your art about 6 inches above the couch. Of course, we all know, rules are sometimes meant to be broken, so use your judgment, based on the size of your wall piece in comparison to the area. You may find 4 inches looks better, or maybe 7 inches. Just stay close to the 6-inch rule.
Are you visual and you don't have someone to hold the picture up for you to back away and look at it? No problem! I have a bonus tip for you. Use painter's tape to mark the area where you want to put your art and leave it up for a few days to see how you feel about it. If you need more of a visual, use construction paper, held up with painter's tape.
Wall art hanging tip #2
When hanging art, a common mistake is to hang it too high. It may sound obvious, but art should be seen and to be seen it should be at eye level. I'm a short 5' 2" (that may even be a stretch), you might be 5' 9", so what is eye level? Let's not overthink it, that's too stressful and this is a stress-free guide. Instead, let's follow the rules created by experts. According to interior design experts, the middle of your art should be between 57 and 60 inches off the ground.
Wall art hanging tip #3
This maybe should have been tip number 1, since this tip is important in choosing your wall art. But better late than not at all right? Your artwork should be about 2/3rds the width of the furniture it is above. So if your couch is 86 inches, your artwork (or your grouping of artwork) should be about 57 inches.
