Project 52 Theme - Week 17
Before & After
With everyone at home these days, due to COVID-19, this is an ideal time to process old images to show some before and after (editing) portraits. As ideal as that sounds, I won’t lie, I didn’t do that. I am still working, just from home instead of the office and with the weather so nice and the parks too crowded to shoot my own dogs, I’ve been enjoying daily desert walks with my dogs, yard work, Netflix binging and some much needed small home projects.
After sifting threw old images, looking for something interesting to edit and struggling to decide on images, I thought why not use what I have? That led to more decisions, which ones?! OMG decisions! I decided to choose from a variety of locations. The locations I went with are Mt. Charleston in January, with a little bit of snow, Floyd Lamb Park, in February, Duck Creek, Utah from last September, Purina Farms, St. Louis in October, and Ramona, California in November.
The first image is a pretty basic edit, just a leash removal, straightening and brightening it up a bit.
Left is straight out of camera and the right is the final image.
The image below was a bit more involved. First it was pretty dark outside and when I was shooting I was balancing pumping up my ISO too high and having too much noise or having too much noise because there wasn’t enough light getting in. Here I should have probably gone with a slightly higher ISO. The next issue is one dog was looking the wrong direction, so I needed to do a head swap. Lastly, I wanted more of the environment in the image, not just a close up of the three dogs, so I needed to add in more background.
First image is straight out of the camera - yikes! The second is the final image.
When I shot this image, I knew I wanted more of the environment, so I took several photos around the dogs so that I could stitch them together to create the image below.
The images below were taken in Duck Creek, Utah, while on vacation. It was dusk and even though you can't see it in the photo, it was autumn and there was a lot of color.
The top image is straight out of camera. Generally - okay always, I do most of my editing in Photoshop. It's just what I'm comfortable with. Lightroom didn't exist when I learned PS, and I've never taken the time to really learn Lightroom. But the second image was fully edited in camera raw. It was a little foreign to me and I don't think I could do it again, but it was fun to play around with.
Again, the top image is SOOC (straight out of Camera). As much as I loved the blue sky, I just didn't think the blue worked well with the overall image. So the second image is a leash removal and changing the sky out a bit.
The top photo is the before and the bottom is after playing around in Photoshop for a while.
