Nevada is at the top of the list of homeless animals in the US. We are 5th, after New Mexico, Idaho, Colorado, and Montana, with 2,000 animals taken in for every 100,000 residents. Lied Animal Foundation takes in more animals than any other shelter in the country. Let that sink in for a moment and imagine your dog in a shelter environment. The thought alone kind of rips your heart out right?
This isn't meant to be a depressing post, so on to the good news. We are fortunate to have a huge amount of amazing people in Las Vegas, who are helping pets in various ways. If you're looking for a pet, or you would like to volunteer or support an organization helping pets, you are in the right place. I've gathered all the organizations that I know of and could find. Some of them may not be non-profits, but most of them are.
Organizations helping pets in unique ways
Pawtastic Friends provides enrichment and training programs to shelter dogs, giving them the skills and guidance to help them transition to their furever home.
Another Day Fund offers financial assistance to pet owners who are unable to pay for emergency veterinary services and would otherwise have to euthanize their pet.
Street Dogz Provides assistance to pets of homeless and those in need, by offering food, vaccinations, assisting with funding to spay and neuter pets and even temporary housing for pets.
Urban Underdog provides assistance to pets of homeless, veterans, seniors and low-income families by providing food, spay/neuter, and vaccines.
Noah's Animal House is a full-service boarding facility on the grounds of the largest women & children's shelter in Nevada, allowing women in need of shelter to bring their pets with them. Their goal is to remove the "No pets allowed" barrier at all women's shelters.

Hearts Alive Village now has an affordable, high-quality veterinary clinic.
